November Newsletter

It is November. This year, more than ever, my focus is on Thanksgiving. My fond memories of Thanksgiving always include the Highland Park elementary school “Thanksgiving Assembly”. There was the Glee Club singing “We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing”, a 4th grader stumbling through the reading of the Governor’s Thanksgiving Proclamation, and a tableau recreation of the first potluck-style dinner with classmates dressed-up as pilgrims and Indians. The event always concluded with an exuberant rendition of “Over the River and Through the Wood”. The vivace tempo may have been inspired by the fact the Wednesday was a half day of school…not only did all of us want to flee early but I now realize the teachers were eager to leave early also. With that nostalgic moment; enjoy your family and friends, lots of good food, and be thankful for every day.

According to a REBNY press release last week, in Q3 2024 there were 326 new building filings, reflecting a 10% increase from Q2 2024 but a 5% decrease year-over-year. The Q3 2024 filings were 43% below the historical average since 2008.  Hopefully my own permit, filed in November, will boost the Q4 statistics!  Read the full press release HERE!

Simple and  Sensational!!
One taste of this amazing cranberry chutney and the turkey drops to at least #2!  It tastes like a $1M, has a kick thanks to the red pepper flakes and could not be easier to prepare - simply throw all the ingredients into a pot and cook down.  Stored in jars in the fridge, it lasts long after the holiday, but...it's awesome with roast chicken, pork chops, spread on sandwiches, and, honestly, eaten with a spoon right from the jar.
