I definitely love May. The weather is wonderful, the nights are long, and the parks are filled with people. The Viburnum trees in my garden are in full bloom and the pool has been opened. There is the quiet flow of spring days. Spend more time outside… enjoy a free walking tour of New York City. More than 200 of them will be available this May as part of Jane's Walk NYC festival hosted by the Municipal Art Society. This beloved annual event, named after famed activist Jane Jacobs, explores the immigrant experience in the East Village, architecture in Cobble Hill, as well as the secrets of Lower Manhattan and more. This is the month to start eating outside. To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I am on the quest to find the best Mexican food truck in NYC. Stand in line and tailgate with tacos and Mexican Coke….how great is that! Another reason May is the best…it is my birthday month. This year I intend to celebrate at the legendary Bemelmans Bar. With its whimsical murals, Earl Rose and his mastery of the great American songbook, and a glow rather than sparkle, Bemelmans is what one imagines New York City should be… brought to life. If you haven’t been, GO! No one has ever felt like it’s their first time there. I may be one year older, but there are so many reasons why May makes me happy. It doesn’t hurt that business is good!

Heating UP!
As New York City entered the spring 2025 real estate season, many buyers, sellers, and brokers expected Manhattan’s most active time of year to offer clarity, and perhaps even a jolt of energy, to a market that’s essentially been drifting sideways since late spring 2022. But instead of a borough-wide resurgence, what emerged was a more fragmented picture. Different parts of Manhattan moved at different speeds.   Get the speed of your "hood"  HERE!
George Would Approve!
33 contracts were signed the last week of April in Manhattan at $4M and above, 5 more than the previous week.  Condos outsold co-ops 23-5 with 1 condop and 4 townhouses in the mix.  The #1 contract was PHE at 601 Washington Street, asking $29M, reduced from $36.5M when it was listed in December.  The owner paid $30.65M in October 2021.  Spanning floors 6 thru 9 with a  total of  7,475 square feet, there are 6 bedrooms with  monthly CC's and RE taxes at $21,386.  See it HERE!

Handwrite The Constitution!
Take a moment away from reading the political headlines and instead get involved writing some historic political activism. Described as "activism for introverts," all are invited to a free event called Handwriting the Constitution at The Old Stone House in Brooklyn. The venue is the site of the first—and largest—Revolutionary War Battle, the Battle of Brooklyn on August 27, 1776. This  project will be held the first Monday of the month for the rest of the year. RSVP HERE!
Paris Was Always a Good Idea!
The Met exhibit "Sargent and Paris" explores the early career of American painter John Singer Sargent (1856–1925), from his arrival in Paris in 1874 as a precocious 18-year-old art student through the mid-1880s, when his infamous portrait Madame X was a scandalous success at the Paris Salon. Over the course of one amazing decade, Sargent achieved recognition by creating boldly ambitious portraits and figure paintings that pushed the boundaries of conventionality.

Here Come The Sunflowers!
The sight of sunflowers takes me thousands of miles away to Southern France where you can drive by acres and acres of them waving in the warm breezes.  It's beautiful and inspirational.  The New York Botanical Garden is hosting a massive floral show called Van Gogh's Flowers, inspired by the genius of the iconic artist Vincent van Gogh. It will run at the botanical garden in the Bronx from May 24 through October 26, 2025.  Info HERE!
Speaking of Flowers!
You can do better than a dozen carnations for Mother’s Day this year to show Mom how much you love her. After all, she brought you into the world, so the least you can do is show your appreciation. Check out this Time Out list of things to do on Mother’s Day including the best restaurants in NYC to take her to, the best shops in NYC for gifts, spas in NYC for a relaxing day, flower shops for the perfect bouquet—basically, how to spoil the most important lady you know.

                                                  When Size Matters
Unless you are fortunate enough to live in a McMansion, you can appreciate the importance of maximizing the room size in your home.  If you're not a fan of the "tiny house" movement, there are ways you can make every room in your house seem larger.  House Beautiful compiled a nice list of easy to achieve ideas.   See the full list HERE!

Happy Birthday To Me!
Did I mention that May is my birthday month?  Well, knowing that I also love baking, you can imagine the online searching that begins at the end of April as I approach "my month".  Scrolling around this year, I came across an "ultimate birthday cake" YouTube video from Allrecipes.com.  I'm not usually a fan of the confetti cake, but this one is easy,  homemade, very tasty and has a clean, simple, design appeal.  To see the video click HERE!
